For over 3000 thousand years, God’s people have continued to celebrate the Passover meal using the expressed commands of Scripture, Rabbinical teaching, and family traditions to form the current accepted structure for the celebration.
The symbols in this tradition utilize all of the senses, as well as confessional repetition of truth, to reiterate to the Jews their past deliverance from slavery in Egypt and to point the way to the Messiah who would ultimately save his people from the slavery of sin. As Christians, we now understand the mystery, hidden from the Israelites, of the suffering Savior, sacrificed on behalf of his people to rescue them from the deadly penalty of sin.
We understand that we are no longer under the Covenant of Works, and keeping the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament is not condition for our acceptance with God. But Jesus didn’t come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it (Matt 5:17). We will also celebrate communion together in anticipation of Resurrection Sunday. Christ’s instructions for this new ordinance were delivered as Jesus reclined at the Passover Table with his disciples. To the end of developing a fuller, richer understanding of the context of Communion in the New Covenant, we will host our own Passover fellowship.
Although we will partake of several elements together, we will not be serving a full meal, so please don’t come with an appetite! Also, please register for the event in order to facilitate our logistical planning.
